10 Things to do now if you plan to sell in the winter Part 1

Over the next couple of weeks I’d like to share my top 10 things you can do during the summer months if you plan on selling your home in the next year.  If you wait until November to start preparing your home for the market you will have missed some golden opportunities.  Most of the projects I will cover are exterior projects that may not be possible once we hit mid fall or later.

10.          Start to Pack and De-Clutter

This is the one interior project.  Packing and De-Cluttering is an overwhelming task.  Start now and do a little bit at a time.  It will be much more manageable.  As you start putting away summer clothes, linens, beach items and outdoor toys pack them and label them for the move.

9.            Clean out Garage/Shed

If you haven’t used it in the last year you don’t need it.  Did you buy a tiller or chain saw three years ago to use it for a single project?  Nobody is going to want to buy those items in December but if you try to sell it now you will have buyers.  As we head into fall it is a good time to go through your yard tools.  Get rid of anything that is broken.  Take some time to clean them well so they are ready for your move.

8.            Clean Gutters

Cleaning your gutters is something that should be done a couple of times a year.  Many homeowners don’t bother until there is a problem.  It is critical to go into the winter with clear gutters.  Ice buildup due to clogs could easily pull your gutters right off the side of your house.
